I recently saw the movie Don Jon.

It tells the story of a man who is addicted to pornography.

Although Don Jon has an active sex life, he is more satisfied and prefers masturbating to porn over having actual sex with women.

This movie made me think about all the things women can easily get addicted to – like shopping, chocolate, and pearl rabbits.

Not a lot of women I know are addicted to porn…

But plenty of them are addicted to their vibrators.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, perhaps the famous Sex and the City episode of Charlotte’s addiction to masturbation can provide some insight.

Many women claim that there is nothing better than an incredibly intense orgasm with the help of a vibrator and some studies have demonstrated that vibrators may even be good for a woman’s health.

By helping women reach orgasm, they can improve quality of sleep, boost the immune system, decrease breast cancer risk, and reduce incidence of heart disease.

Surprising, isn’t it?

With so many women choosing toys over boys and me-time over he-time…

I started thinking, is there a downside to using vibrators?

Is your vibrator toxic?

Are there any negative health implications?

The story of Don Jon showed the negative side of porn addiction, so there must be a problem with vibrator addiction as well, right?

Absolutely!

There are definitely some concerns that you should be aware of.

Firstly, being addicted to anything isn’t healthy – and women who are addicted to their pearl rabbits may run into problems in their sexual and personal relationships.

Overusing a vibrator may also cause desensitization of the clitoris and vaginal area, making manual stimulation practically useless.

If you’ve trained your body to achieve orgasm with a tiny motor that rotates 12000 times per minute, it won’t be easy for a man to bring you to orgasm.

There aren’t many men out there who can move their hand, tongue or body the way a vibrator can, so you may be setting yourself up for a less than satisfying love making session.

Not only will you be disappointed with the lack of “battery” power your partner can offer you, this may lead to an array of other issues in your relationship.

In addition, most vibrators are not made with all natural ingredients.

If you’re investing in your health by buying organic food like quinoa and collard greens, using organic personal care products, and taking high-quality supplements, you may want to think twice about the chemicals you’re exposing yourself to by using sex toys.

I’m sure you’ve heard of children’s toys being recalled due to the use of toxic materials – the same goes for adult toys. Most companies are manufacturing unhealthy sex toys without taking into consideration the well-being of the people using them.

In fact, a study done by German chemist Hans Ulrich Krieg in 2000 uncovered 10 dangerous chemicals used in some adult toys, including diethylhexyl phthalates.

This toxic ingredient is an endocrine disruptor that can impair fertility.

No thank you!

That means it’s up to you to protect your sexy parts from harmful chemicals.

Read your labels and choose wisely.

Not only should you select your sexual partners intelligently, you also want to choose your sex toys wisely.

Don’t be fooled by the pretty colors and enticing shapes – these erotic accessories can harm your health.

And if you’re kinky in the bedroom, you’re probably into colorful lube, body paint, and edible massage oil.

I love that you’re all about a good time when it comes to being intimate with your partner, but have you ever considered what you’re actually putting on your body or in your mouth?

These adult stores sell all kinds of erotic accessories to spice up your sex life. Unfortunately, many of them are packed with chemicals and toxic synthetics.

Adult playtime can increase your toxic load.

So here’s what you should be aware of!

5 common ingredients to look out for and what they cause:

1. Alcohol

irritation and dryness

2. Glycerin

irritation and dryness, and increases your risk of yeast infections

3. Parabens

increases cancer risk and disrupts hormonal balance

4. Petroleum

blocks pores and causes irritation

5. Preservatives

affects the quality of sperm

I’m pretty sure…

YOU don’t want these irritating toxic ingredients near your sexy parts, so why not try something natural, gentle, and free of toxins!?

Province Apothecary’s Sex Oil is an excellent alternative!

It’s available at select stores and online.

You can also add an essential oil blend to 120 mL of Province Apothecary’s Sex Oil.

These natural stimulating oils will wake up your senses and increase your libido!

Are there organic, non-toxic, eco-friendly sex toys and erotic accessories out there?

There sure are!

So ladies if you insist on using sexually pleasing objects or tasty lubes, at least choose non-toxic ones.

Since there aren’t any standard regulations in place just yet, it’s your job as a consumer to shop wisely.

It’s the least you can do for your lady parts.

I love the Infographic below outlining 12 Myths About Sex! According to it, 85% of women who experience orgasm difficulty, are still sexually satisfied in their relationships.

Perhaps the 85% of women who were surveyed have toys stashed in their drawers.

I guess we’ll never know… :)
